  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to voter education; requiring

  3         district school boards and county supervisors

  4         of elections jointly to provide a program of

  5         voter education for high-school seniors;

  6         providing guidelines for the content of the

  7         educational program; providing an effective

  8         date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12         Section 1.  Each district school board and county

13  supervisor of elections shall cooperate to provide voter

14  education to high-school students who are in grade 12. This

15  educational effort must include instruction in the

16  responsibilities of voters, how to vote, how and when to

17  preregister, and how to use voting machines.  Students who

18  have satisfactorily completed the instruction should be

19  allowed to preregister to vote.  Such instruction should take

20  place during school hours, for instance during a senior

21  assembly or other such event, so as to facilitate focusing on

22  12th-graders.

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.
