2 An act relating to subacute care; requiring the
3 Agency for Health Care Administration to
4 conduct a study of transitional subacute care
5 services provided to adults; requiring a report
6 to the Legislature; providing an effective
7 date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. The Agency for Health Care Administration
12 shall conduct a study of the ways transitional subacute care
13 is provided to adults in the state. The agency shall report on
14 the settings, other than the patient's home, to which patients
15 are discharged from acute-care settings. The agency must study
16 both licensed and unlicensed settings to which physicians
17 discharge patients for transitional subacute care prior to the
18 patient's return to his or her home. By January 1, 2003, the
19 agency must report to the Legislature regarding the locations
20 where patients receive transitional subacute care, the types
21 of services received, costs of the services, and the sources
22 of funding that pay for the services. The study must include
23 information regarding transitional subacute care in hospitals
24 and nursing homes as well as in facilities that are not
25 licensed as healthcare facilities. The report must include a
26 review of how transitional subacute care is provided in other
27 states.
28 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
29 law.
