1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing March as Colorectal
3 Cancer Awareness Month and urging all men and
4 women to become aware of the risks and symptoms
5 associated with colorectal cancer.

7 WHEREAS, colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause
8 of cancer deaths in Florida, and
9 WHEREAS, it is estimated that this year physicians will
10 diagnose 9,400 cases of colorectal cancer in this state and
11 4,000 Floridians will die from colorectal cancer, and
12 WHEREAS, nationally less than 50 percent of individuals
13 above age 50 receive annual screenings for colorectal cancer,
14 and
15 WHEREAS, adopting a healthy diet at a young age can
16 significantly reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer,
17 and
18 WHEREAS, following screening guidelines can lower the
19 number of cases by detecting precancerous polyps, and
20 WHEREAS, regular screenings can save many lives, and
21 WHEREAS, education can help inform the public of
22 methods of prevention and symptoms of early detection, NOW,
23 THEREFORE,

25 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

27 That the Florida Senate recognizes March as Colorectal
28 Cancer Awareness Month in Florida, and urges all men and
29 women, and particularly members of high-risk populations, to
30 become aware of the risks and symptoms associated with
31
