  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution honoring the Florida National

  3         Guard and designating February 20, 2002, as

  4         Florida National Guard Day.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Florida National Guard is the military arm

  7  of the Governor and the people of the great State of Florida,

  8  and

  9         WHEREAS, whenever there is a crisis or an emergency,

10  the Florida National Guard stands ready to immediately respond

11  to a call from the Governor, and

12         WHEREAS, the citizens of Florida can always be assured

13  that, when called to protect their lives and property, the

14  Florida National Guard will respond, prepared to accomplish

15  any task or mission, and

16         WHEREAS, the Florida Air National Guard deployed on

17  September 11, 2001, for Operation Noble Eagle to protect the

18  skies throughout the great State of Florida and are still on

19  duty, and

20         WHEREAS, elements of the 290th Joint Communications

21  Support Squadron deployed to Afghanistan for Operation

22  Enduring Freedom and are still on duty, and

23         WHEREAS, elements of the Florida Army National Guard

24  deployed after September 11, 2001, in response to our National

25  Disaster with Operation American Rescue, Operation Safe Sky,

26  Operation Safe Harbor, and

27         WHEREAS, with the approach of the 2002 wildfire season,

28  the Florida National Guard is richly deserving of recognition

29  for its success in the past as its soldiers and airmen stand

30  ready to meet any crisis in the future, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  2

  3         That the Senate recognizes the true and faithful

  4  service of the soldiers and airmen of the Florida National

  5  Guard.

  6         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate recognizes the

  7  significant contributions and consistent readiness of the

  8  Florida National Guard by designating February 20, 2002, as

  9  Florida National Guard Day in the State of Florida.

10         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

11  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Major

12  General Douglas Burnett, Adjutant General of Florida, as a

13  tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
