2 A resolution recognizing March 6, 2002, as
3 University of Florida Intercollegiate Athletics
4 Day.

6 WHEREAS, the University of Florida this year received
7 its 10th consecutive Southeastern Conference All-Sports Award,
8 and
9 WHEREAS, the University of Florida is one of only two
10 universities to rank in the top ten in national all-sports
11 rankings in each of the last 18 years, and
12 WHEREAS, the University of Florida won the 2001 Men's
13 Golf National Championship under the leadership of Coach Buddy
14 Alexander, and
15 WHEREAS, since the beginning of the 2000-2001 academic
16 year, the University of Florida won Southeastern Conference
17 championships in football, soccer, volleyball, men's
18 basketball, and women's tennis, and
19 WHEREAS, the University of Florida has earned 13 NCAA
20 Championships since 1980 in aggregate for football, soccer,
21 men's golf, women's golf, men's swimming and diving, women's
22 swimming and diving, women's tennis, and women's track and
23 field, and
24 WHEREAS, the University of Florida has earned 153
25 Southeastern Conference titles since joining that conference,
26 and
27 WHEREAS, the University of Florida football team
28 compiled a 122-27-1 record and won a National Championship
29 during the 12-year tenure of Coach Steve Spurrier, and

1 WHEREAS, the University of Florida has had 41 Academic
2 All-Americans since 1992 ranking fourth among all NCAA
3 Division 1 schools during that time, and
4 WHEREAS, the University of Florida had a league and
5 school record of 133 student-athletes named to the
6 Southeastern Conference's Academic Honor Roll in 2000-2001,
7 and
8 WHEREAS, the Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted former
9 University of Florida All-American Jack Youngblood into the
10 2001 Hall of Fame Class, and
11 WHEREAS, the year 2002 began with the departure of
12 Coach Steve Spurrier, who, in his 12-year career at the
13 University of Florida, compiled a 122-27-1 record and an NCAA
14 national championship, and
15 WHEREAS, the University of Florida welcomed Coach Ron
16 Zook to direct the Gator Football Team to further exceptional
17 achievements, NOW, THEREFORE,

19 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
20
21 That March 6, 2002, is recognized as University of
22 Florida Intercollegiate Athletics Day, in recognition of the
23 outstanding achievements and dedication to the ideals of the
24 student-athlete demonstrated by the student-athletes of the
25 University of Florida.
