  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution expressing regret at the death of

  3         community leader Isabell Queen Williams, wife

  4         of Leon Oliver Williams.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Florida Senate, with deep regret, has

  7  learned of the death of former educator and community leader

  8  Isabell Queen Williams, and

  9         WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams was a noteworthy educator in

10  Broward County, a model mother, an active member of the Mt.

11  Hermon A.M.E. Church, and a member of Delta Sigma Theta

12  Sorority, and

13         WHEREAS, it is fitting that the Florida Senate

14  commemorate the passing of a stalwart woman who, at one time

15  or another, capably fulfilled nearly every role that a good

16  American citizen can play, NOW, THEREFORE,

17

18  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

19

20         That this legislative body does pause in its

21  deliberations to pay its respects to the late Isabell Queen

22  Williams and that the Florida Senate in session assembled does

23  record this testimonial of esteem and bereavement:

24                           IN MEMORIAM

25                      ISABELL QUEEN WILLIAMS

26         Isabell Queen Williams was born in Miami, Florida, on

27  July 12, 1943, and, after the death of her mother, was

28  lovingly reared by her maternal grandmother. After graduating

29  from Miami Northwestern High School and from Bethune-Cookman

30  College, with a B. A. Degree in English, and completing

31  graduate work, Mrs. Williams became a classroom instructor, a

  1  guidance counselor, the English/Reading Department Chairperson

  2  and, later, assistant principal at McNicol Middle School, and

  3  assistant principal at several other middle schools. In

  4  addition to serving 31 years as a devoted and noteworthy

  5  educator in Broward County, Mrs. Williams co-owned the Royal

  6  Funeral Services in Miami and served as a consultant in the

  7  RSVP Consultant Service. Queen and Leon Oliver Williams

  8  married in 1972 and raised a beloved son and daughter, LeShea

  9  Olivia Williams and LeZane Ollicent Williams.

10         Mrs. Williams worked diligently as a Legislative

11  Administrative Assistant with Representative Dorothy

12  Bendross-Mindingall and with Senator Kendrick Meek. She was

13  devoted to her family and her church, was active in Delta

14  Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and in community endeavors, and

15  took a profound interest in the educational pursuits and the

16  lives of young people throughout the Broward and Miami-Dade

17  communities. She was not only a member of numerous community

18  organizations but was also an active participant in many such

19  groups, including Community and Development Organization,

20  Inc., Gold Coast Business and Professional Organization,

21  Bethune-Cookman Alumni Association, Nova Alumni Association,

22  Phi Delta Kappa Educational Sorority, Egelloc Civic and Social

23  Club, Miami International Book Fair, Black Heritage Book Club,

24  Family Christian Association of America, Top Ladies of

25  Distinction, Masonic Lighthouse #71 Eastern Stars, Black

26  Archives, and Teacher-a-Rama.

27         Mrs. Queen Williams died Friday, July 27, 2001, leaving

28  unforgettable memories of a life richly and fully lived.

29         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

30  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be transmitted to Leon

31
