2 A resolution recognizing the University of
3 South Florida football team.

5 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida football team,
6 in existence for a mere 5 years, ascended to the rank of a
7 competitive Division 1-A team during the 2001 football season,
8 and
9 WHEREAS, led by Coach Jim Leavitt, the University of
10 South Florida football team is the first to earn the coveted
11 status of Division 1 in such a brief time period, and
12 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida football team
13 quickly captured the attention of the sports world by climbing
14 in the ranks from 114 to an astonishing 22, according to the
15 New York Times computer college football survey, and
16 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida football team
17 earned an amazing 8-3 record in its first 1-A season, and
18 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida Bulls'
19 stunning 35-26 victory over the University of Pittsburgh marks
20 the first significant win in the school's football history,
21 NOW, THEREFORE,

23 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

25 That the Florida Senate enthusiastically joins the
26 University of South Florida students, faculty, staff, and
27 alumni and countless FOOTBULL fans in the Tampa Bay region and
28 beyond in congratulating Coach Jim Leavitt, his energetic
29 staff, and the young Bulls football team for their
30 record-breaking accomplishments during the 2001 season.
