  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution commemorating the 100th

  3         anniversary of the Children's Home Society in

  4         2002.

  6         WHEREAS, the Children's Home Society is Florida's

  7  statewide, nonprofit social service provider to children and

  8  families, and

  9         WHEREAS, in 1902, the Children's Home Society was

10  established as a Jacksonville orphanage by Reverend D. W.

11  Comstock and Reverend W. E. Boggs, and

12         WHEREAS, since then more than 30,000 children have been

13  permanently adopted through the Children's Home Society, and

14         WHEREAS, each year more than 50,000 children and 48,000

15  adults are aided by the Children's Home Society, and

16         WHEREAS, the Children's Home Society offers a plenitude

17  of social services, including adoption, foster care, group

18  homes, pregnancy services, family and individual counseling,

19  child-abuse prevention, emergency shelters, case management,

20  and treatment for disabled children, and

21         WHEREAS, the high level of recognition granted by the

22  Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children

23  to the Children's Home Society is attained by fewer than 1

24  percent of child-caring agencies, and

25         WHEREAS, in January 2002, the Children's Home Society

26  celebrated 100 years of service to Florida's children, NOW,

27  THEREFORE,

29  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  1         That the Florida Senate congratulates the Children's

  2  Home Society for its century of commitment to Florida's

  3  children and for its programs and services designed to build,

  4  strengthen, and mend families.
