  1                    Senate Resolution No. ____

  2         A resolution honoring Dr. Catherine P.

  3         Cornelius, on the occasion of her retirement as

  4         President of South Florida Community College.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, Dr. Cornelius has devoted 39 years of service

  7  and commitment to higher education in this state, spending the

  8  last 18 years as President of South Florida Community College,

  9  and

10         WHEREAS, under the leadership of Dr. Cornelius, the

11  enrollment of South Florida Community College has increased by

12  nearly 300 percent, the college's main campus has more than

13  doubled in size, five satellite centers have been established,

14  the number of academic programs offered by the college has

15  more than tripled, and partnerships have been established with

16  five colleges or universities, and

17         WHEREAS, following its establishment in 1965, South

18  Florida Community College has grown to become an institution

19  that exerts a major positive influence upon the economy of

20  Central and South Florida through its programs in economic and

21  community development and collaborative partnerships with

22  local agencies, businesses, and industries, and

23         WHEREAS, as a tribute to the many accomplishments of

24  Dr. Cornelius and her years of service to the community

25  college, the Board of Directors of the South Florida Community

26  College Foundation, Inc., has created an endowed scholarship

27  for needy and deserving students who are in the final 2 years

28  of study in any one of the 15 Bachelor's Degree programs

29  offered through the South Florida Community College University

30  Center, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

  2

  3         That the Florida Senate commends Dr. Catherine P.

  4  Cornelius for her many years of service to higher education in

  5  this state and congratulates her on the establishment of the

  6  Catherine P. Cornelius Endowed Scholarship.

  7         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,

  8  with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Dr.

  9  Cornelius as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida

10  Senate.
