1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing Derek Parra, winner of
3 a Gold Medal in the Men's 1500 meter and a
4 Silver Medal in the 5000 meter Speed Skating
5 events at the 19th Olympic Winter Games in Salt
6 Lake City.

8 WHEREAS, Derek Parra, a resident of Central Florida and
9 a 2002 Winter Olympic Speed Skating 1500 meter Gold Medalist
10 and a 5000 meter Silver Medalist, has achieved national
11 recognition as an Olympian and a two-time world-record holder
12 in his sport, and
13 WHEREAS, Mr. Parra continues to serve his nation by
14 representing the United States on the ice and exemplifies
15 dedication by working at Home Depot in its Winter Athlete
16 Associate Program, and
17 WHEREAS, the success of the State of Florida, the
18 strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of
19 American society is dependent, in great measure, upon the
20 dedication of people like Mr. Parra who use their considerable
21 talents to serve our nation and represent our state, NOW,
22 THEREFORE,

24 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

26 That the Florida Senate congratulates and honors Mr.
27 Parra as a winner of a Gold and a Silver medal in the 2002
28 Winter Olympics held in Salt Lake City, Utah, and extends its
29 best wishes for his continued success.
30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
31 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Derek
