11  Senator Brown-Waite moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment 

14         Delete everything after the enacting clause

16  and insert:

17         Section 1.  Subsection (12) is added to section

18  232.246, Florida Statutes, to read:

19         232.246  General requirements for high school

20  graduation.--

21         (12)  The Commissioner of Education may award a

22  standard high school diploma to honorably discharged veterans

23  who started high school between 1946 and 1950 and were

24  scheduled to graduate between 1950 and 1954, but were inducted

25  into the United States Armed Forces between June 1950 and

26  January 1954, and served during the Korean War prior to

27  completing the necessary high school graduation requirements.

28  Upon the recommendation of the commissioner, the State Board

29  of Education may develop criteria and guidelines for awarding

30  such diplomas.

31         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.
