1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to advanced registered nurse
3 practitioners; amending s. 893.02, F.S.;
4 redefining the term "practitioner" to include
5 advanced registered nurse practitioners for the
6 purpose of authorizing them to prescribe
7 controlled substances under certain
8 circumstances; providing an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
11
12 Section 1. Subsection (19) of section 893.02, Florida
13 Statutes, is amended to read:
14 893.02 Definitions.--The following words and phrases
15 as used in this chapter shall have the following meanings,
16 unless the context otherwise requires:
17 (19) "Practitioner" means:
18 (a) A physician licensed pursuant to chapter 458,
19 (b) A dentist licensed pursuant to chapter 466,
20 (c) A veterinarian licensed pursuant to chapter 474,
21 (d) An osteopathic physician licensed pursuant to
22 chapter 459,
23 (e) A naturopath licensed pursuant to chapter 462,
24 (f) An advanced registered nurse practitioner
25 certified pursuant to s. 464.012 who prescribes under the
26 general supervision of a physician licensed under chapter 458,
27 an osteopathic physician licensed under chapter 459, or a
28 dentist licensed under chapter 466 and pursuant to a protocol
29 with that physician, osteopathic physician, or dentist, or
30 (g) A podiatric physician licensed pursuant to chapter
31 461,

2 provided such practitioner holds a valid federal controlled
3 substance registry number.
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.

Redefines the term "practitioner," for purposes of ch.
9 893, F.S., the "Florida Comprehensive Drug Abuse
Prevention and Control Act," to include advanced
10 registered nurse practitioners for the purpose of
authorizing them to prescribe controlled substances under
11 the general supervision of, and pursuant to a protocol
with, a licensed physician, osteopathic physician, or
12 dentist.
