14         Amendment (with title amendment)

18  and insert:

19         Section 1.  Subsections (5), (6), and (7) are added to

20  section 320.0842, Florida Statutes, to read:

21         320.0842  Free motor vehicle license plates to veterans

22  who use wheelchairs.--

23         (5)  Any applicant who because of a long-term mobility

24  impairment is eligible for the disabled parking permit issued

25  under s. 320.0848 is eligible for a license plate under this

26  section if:

27         (a)  The United States Department of Veterans Affairs

28  has determined the applicant to have a service-connected

29  disability rated for compensation between 10 and 90 percent;

30  or

31         (b)  The applicant has been determined to have a

  1  service-connected disability of between 10 and 90 percent and

  2  the applicant is in receipt of disability retirement pay from

  3  any branch of the United States Armed Services.

  4         (6)  Applicants applying under subsection (5) shall be

  5  assessed a $17 annual use fee which must be deposited in the

  6  State Homes for Veterans Trust Fund. All such fees are to be

  7  administered by the Department of Veterans' Affairs and must

  8  be used solely for the purpose of constructing, operating, and

  9  maintaining domiciliary and nursing homes for veterans subject

10  to the requirements of chapter 216.

11         (7)  Applicants applying under subsection (5) shall be

12  assessed all taxes, fees, and other charges otherwise required

13  pursuant to this chapter.

14         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2002.
