11  The Committee on Transportation offered the following:

13         Amendment (with title amendment) 

14  Remove everything after the enacting clause

16  and insert:

17         Section 1.  Subsections (5), (6), and (7) are added to

18  section 320.0842, Florida Statutes, to read:

19         320.0842  Free motor vehicle license plates to veterans

20  who use wheelchairs.--

21         (5)  Any applicant who because of a long-term mobility

22  impairment is eligible for the disabled parking permit issued

23  under s. 320.0848 may apply for a license plate under this

24  section if:

25         (a)  The United States Department of Veterans Affairs

26  has determined the applicant to have a service-connected

27  disability rated for compensation between 10 and 90 percent;

28  or

29         (b)  The applicant has been determined to have a

30  service-connected disability of between 10 and 90 percent and

31  the applicant is in receipt of disability retirement pay from

  1  any branch of the United States Armed Services.

  2         (6)  Applicants applying under subsection (5) shall be

  3  assessed a $17 annual use fee which must be deposited in the

  4  State Homes for Veterans Trust Fund. All such fees are to be

  5  administered by the Department of Veterans' Affairs and must

  6  be used solely for the purpose of constructing, operating, and

  7  maintaining domiciliary and nursing homes for veterans subject

  8  to the requirements of chapter 216.

  9         (7)  Applicants applying under the provisions of

10  subsection (5) shall be assessed all taxes, fees, and other

11  charges otherwise required pursuant to this chapter.

12         Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2002.
