  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to determination of resident

  3         status for tuition purposes; amending s.

  4         240.1201, F.S.; providing for classification as

  5         residents of dependent children of certain

  6         active duty members of the Armed Services;

  7         providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Paragraph (b) of subsection (10) of section

12  240.1201, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

13         240.1201  Determination of resident status for tuition

14  purposes.--Students shall be classified as residents or

15  nonresidents for the purpose of assessing tuition fees in

16  public community colleges and universities.

17         (10)  The following persons shall be classified as

18  residents for tuition purposes:

19         (b)  Active duty members of the Armed Services of the

20  United States, and their spouses, and their dependent children

21  attending a public community college or university within 50

22  miles of the military establishment where they are stationed,

23  if such military establishment is within a county contiguous

24  to Florida.

25         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2002.
