14 On page 2, between lines 14 and 15, of the bill

16 insert:
17 Section 2. Subsection (5) is added to section 295.07,
18 Florida Statutes, to read:
19 295.07 Preference in appointment and retention.--
20 (5)(a) All select exempt positions in the Department
21 of Veterans' Affairs shall be advertised through the State of
22 Florida Internet-based job advertisement site.
23 (b) The executive director of the Department of
24 Veterans' Affairs shall fill any vacant select exempt position
25 in the department with a veteran, as defined in subsection
26 (1), who is qualified for the position. However, if a
27 qualified veteran does not apply for the position by the
28 closing date, the executive director may offer the position to
29 a nonveteran applicant.
