11  Senator Crist moved the following amendment:

13         Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 
14         On page 5, between lines 3 and 4,
15  
16  insert:  
17         Section 3.  (1)  The Governor may award a medal of
18  heroism of appropriate design, with ribbons and appurtenances,
19  to law enforcement or corrections officers, as defined in
20  section 943.10(14), Florida Statutes, firefighters, as defined
21  in section 112.191(1)(b), Florida Statutes, emergency medical
22  technicians, as defined in section 401.23, Florida Statutes,
23  or paramedics, as defined in section 401.23, Florida Statutes,
24  who have distinguished themselves conspicuously by gallantry
25  and intrepidity and who risk their lives deliberately, above
26  and beyond the call of duty, while:
27         (a)  Performing duty in their respective positions; and
28         (b)  Engaging in hazardous or perilous activities to
29  preserve lives, with the knowledge that such activities might
30  result in great personal harm to themselves.
31         (2)  The candidates or persons seeking to nominate

 1  candidates for the award must make written application to the
 2  Governor. The Governor may refer applications to the Florida
 3  Department of Law Enforcement, the Department of Community
 4  Affairs, or to a private association for advice and
 5  recommendations regarding the applications.
