3 assistance; amending s. 240.409, F.S., relating
4 to the Florida Public Student Assistance Grant
5 Program; authorizing grants to part-time
6 degree-seeking students; revising provisions
7 relating to the maximum amount of the grants;
8 providing an effective date.

10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section
13 240.409, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
14 240.409 Florida Public Student Assistance Grant
15 Program; eligibility for grants.--
16 (2)(a) State student assistance grants through the
17 program may be made only to full-time degree-seeking students
18 who enroll in at least 6 semester hours, or the equivalent per
19 term, and who meet the general requirements for student
20 eligibility as provided in s. 240.404, except as otherwise
21 provided in this section. Such grants shall be awarded
22 annually for the amount of demonstrated unmet need for the
23 cost of education and may not exceed an amount equal to the
24 average prior academic year cost of matriculation fees and
25 other registration fees for 30 credit hours at state
26 universities or such other amount as specified in the General
27 Appropriations Act, to any recipient. A demonstrated unmet
28 need of less than $200 shall render the applicant ineligible
29 for a state student assistance grant. Recipients of such
30 grants must have been accepted at a state university or
31 community college authorized by Florida law. A No student is

1 eligible for the award for 110 percent of the number of credit
2 hours required to complete the program in which enrolled may
3 receive an award for more than the equivalent of 9 semesters
4 or 14 quarters of full-time enrollment, except as otherwise
5 provided in s. 240.404(3).
6 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
7 law.
