11  The Committee on Transportation offered the following:

13         Amendment (with title amendment) 

14         On page 31, of the bill between lines 16 and 17,

15

16  insert:

17         Section 8.  Section 335.066, Florida Statutes, is

18  created to read:

19         335.066 Safe Paths to Schools Program.--

20         (1)  There is hereby established within the Department

21  of Transportation the Safe Paths to Schools Program to

22  consider the planning and construction of bicycle and

23  pedestrian ways to provide safe transportation for children

24  from neighborhoods to schools, parks, and the state's

25  greenways and trails system.

26         (2)  As a part of the Safe Paths to Schools Program,

27  the department may establish a grant program to fund local

28  regional, and state bicycle and pedestrian projects that

29  support the program.

30         (3)  The Department may adopt appropriate rules for the

31  administration of the Safe Paths to Schools Program.

11         greenways and trails; giving the department

12         rulemaking authority; giving the department

13         discretion to establish grants for program;
