1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing January 30, 2002, as
3 the 100th anniversary of Goodwill Industries.

5 WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries was founded in Boston in
6 1902 by the Reverend Edgar Helms, who formed the enterprise as
7 an opportunity for his parishioners to earn wages by repairing
8 and selling donated articles, and
9 WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries provides employment, job
10 training, and career services for people who are disabled or
11 who face other disadvantages, such as welfare dependency,
12 illiteracy, a criminal history, or homelessness, and
13 WHEREAS, in order to fund its work, Goodwill Industries
14 collects donated clothing and household goods and sells these
15 items in its retail stores throughout North America and the
16 entire world, and
17 WHEREAS, during its 100-year existence, Goodwill
18 Industries has helped more than 5 million people through its
19 programs and services, and in the year 2001 provided
20 opportunities and training services for more than 70,000
21 individuals in the State of Florida alone, and
22 WHEREAS, on January 30, 2002, Goodwill Industries
23 celebrates its 100th anniversary, NOW, THEREFORE,

25 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
26 Florida:

28 That the Florida House of Representatives congratulates
29 the Florida Goodwill Association and Goodwill Industries the
30 world over on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the
31 organization and commends the organization for its valuable

1 programs, which have expanded the opportunities and
2 occupational capabilities of millions of Americans.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
4 be presented to the Reverend Mr. Donald L. Roberts, President
5 of the Florida Goodwill Association, as a tangible token of
6 the sentiments of the Florida House of Representatives.
