  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution designating the week of August

  3         4-10, 2002, as "Youth Appreciation Week" in

  4         Florida.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, each year the nation observes special days

  7  devoted to honoring its mothers, fathers, and grandparents,

  8  and there is even a day on which national attention is riveted

  9  on the activities of a temperamental groundhog and another

10  during which our thoughts are turned toward the antics of the

11  illusive Wee Folk from Ireland, and

12         WHEREAS, each year there are untold numbers of children

13  and youth throughout the United States who make remarkable and

14  all-too-often unrecognized contributions toward improving and

15  enriching the lives of others, be they families and friends,

16  neighbors, or total strangers who are in need, and

17         WHEREAS, sadly, it appears to be the tendency of

18  today's society to focus on the negative actions of a

19  comparatively few of the nation's children, while the worthy

20  accomplishments of the majority go largely unnoticed, and

21         WHEREAS, whether through organized projects designed to

22  befriend and encourage the elderly, honor the country's

23  veterans, increase public awareness of the value of each

24  person's vote, or protect and improve the environment, or

25  whether by individual acts of perseverance and courage,

26  America's youngsters contribute mightily toward the well-being

27  and stability of the nation to which they will one day fall

28  heir and for which they will have the responsibility to honor,

29  maintain, and protect, and

30         WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that this segment of

31  our national treasure, America's children and youth, be

  1  recognized with utmost gratitude for their contributions to

  2  the lives of the citizens and residents of this state, the

  3  United States, and indeed the entire world, NOW, THEREFORE,

  4

  5  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  6  Florida:

  7

  8         That the House of Representatives pauses in its

  9  deliberations to pay tribute to the nation's young people and

10  to designate the week of August 4-10, 2002, as "Youth

11  Appreciation Week" in Florida, a time in which the adult

12  population is encouraged to demonstrate its sincere

13  appreciation for the consistent day-to-day actions of our

14  youth as well as for the occasional heroic effort that

15  captures the attention of the entire state and nation.
