  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution recognizing the City of Port

  3         Orange, Florida, on the occasion of the 135th

  4         anniversary of its founding.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the City of Port Orange, Florida, was founded

  7  as a distinct community in 1867 by Dr. Milton Hawks, and

  8         WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Port

  9  Orange have declared 2002 as a year of celebration of the

10  135th anniversary of the city's founding, and

11         WHEREAS, the City of Port Orange is widely recognized

12  for its advocacy of environmental protection, and

13         WHEREAS, Port Orange recognizes the importance of

14  creating a community that appreciates its history as the

15  foundation for its future, and

16         WHEREAS, Port Orange is widely recognized in Volusia

17  County and around the state for its efficient and effective

18  delivery of municipal services, NOW, THEREFORE,

19

20  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

21  Florida:

22

23         That 2002 is declared to be a year of celebration in

24  recognition of the 135th anniversary of the City of Port

25  Orange and Tuesday, February 26, 2002, is designated as "Port

26  Orange Day."

27         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

28  be presented to the Mayor and members of the City Council of

29  the City of Port Orange as a tangible token of the sentiments

30  expressed herein.
