1 House Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing February 21, 2002, as
3 "Smile Day 2002" in Florida.

5 WHEREAS, the health and welfare of the citizens of the
6 State of Florida are of paramount concern to the Florida House
7 of Representatives, and
8 WHEREAS, poor oral health not only leads to the
9 unnecessary loss of teeth, but has been shown to be linked to
10 cardiovascular problems, serious respiratory infections, and
11 other significant diseases, and
12 WHEREAS, regular professional cleanings and other
13 preventive services provided by licensed dental hygienists are
14 highly effective in maintaining good oral health, and
15 WHEREAS, dental hygienists are licensed professionals
16 who complete a minimum two-year accredited college program to
17 adequately prepare themselves with the expertise and clinical
18 skills needed to provide safe, competent service to their
19 patients, and
20 WHEREAS, there are six thousand licensed dental
21 hygienists in the State of Florida, who promote and foster
22 oral hygiene and education, and
23 WHEREAS, the Florida Dental Hygiene Association
24 represents the profession of dental hygiene, and members of
25 the association have traveled to Tallahassee to sponsor Smile
26 Day, NOW, THEREFORE,

28 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
