  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution designating July 2002 as "Joey

  3         Bergsma Retinoblastoma Awareness Month" in

  4         Florida.

  5

  6         WHEREAS, retinoblastoma is a serious disease affecting

  7  as many as one in every 15,000 children in the United States,

  8  and

  9         WHEREAS, retinoblastoma is a disease that, through the

10  use of proper procedures, is readily detectable, and

11         WHEREAS, retinoblastoma is a disease that, with early

12  detection and intervention, is treatable, but which, if not

13  detected early and treated appropriately, may lead to death,

14  NOW, THEREFORE,

16  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

17  Florida:

19         That the House of Representatives hereby designates

20  July 2002 as "Joey Bergsma Retinoblastoma Awareness Month" in

21  Florida and urges the residents of the state to take measures

22  to become better informed about retinoblastoma and its

23  symptoms.
