  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution honoring the Florida National

  3         Guard and designating February 20, 2002, as

  4         "Florida National Guard Day."

  5

  6         WHEREAS, the Florida National Guard is the military arm

  7  of the Governor and the people of the State of Florida, and

  8         WHEREAS, whenever a crisis or an emergency arises, the

  9  Florida National Guard stands ready to respond immediately to

10  a call from the Governor, and

11         WHEREAS, the residents of Florida may always rest

12  assured that, when called upon to protect the lives and

13  property of Floridians, the Florida National Guard is alert

14  and ready to respond, prepared to accomplish any task or

15  mission, and

16         WHEREAS, the Florida Air National Guard deployed on

17  September 11, 2001, for Operation Noble Eagle to protect the

18  skies above Florida and are still on duty, and

19         WHEREAS, elements of the 290th Joint Communications

20  Support Squadron deployed to Afghanistan for Operation

21  Enduring Freedom and are still on duty, and

22         WHEREAS, elements of the Florida Army National Guard

23  deployed following the events of September 11, 2001,

24  responding to the national disaster with Operation American

25  Rescue, Operation Safe Sky, and Operation Safe Harbor, and

26         WHEREAS, the Florida National Guard is richly deserving

27  of recognition for its successes in the past and for the

28  readiness of its soldiers and airmen to meet any crisis that

29  may occur in the future, NOW, THEREFORE,

  1  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

  2  Florida:

  3

  4         That the House of Representatives recognizes the true

  5  and faithful service of the soldiers and airmen of the Florida

  6  National Guard, expresses sincere gratitude for their

  7  significant contributions and consistent readiness, and

  8  considers it a privilege to designate February 20, 2002, as

  9  "Florida National Guard Day."

10         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution

11  be presented to Major General Douglas Burnett, Adjutant

12  General of Florida, as a tangible token of the sentiments

13  expressed herein.
