  1                         House Resolution
  2         A resolution honoring William H. Gates III.
  3
  4         WHEREAS, William H. Gates III has demonstrated his
  5  leadership, vision, and concern for education by his strong
  6  financial support of education nationwide through the
  7  operation of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and
  8         WHEREAS, through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,
  9  William H. Gates III has clearly shown his firm belief in the
10  use of the technology developed by his companies to meet the
11  educational needs of young people, to recognize and encourage
12  high achievement, and to develop strong leadership, and
13         WHEREAS, William H. Gates III has, through the
14  foundation, awarded Florida schools $5.5 million over a period
15  of three years with which to provide school superintendents
16  and principals, both public and private, opportunities to
17  develop knowledge and skills in the effective use of
18  technology as a means of promoting student learning, and
19         WHEREAS, in addition, Microsoft Corporation has
20  contributed $1,345,781 in funds and materials to libraries,
21  universities, schools, and other educational entities in the
22  state of Florida alone, NOW, THEREFORE,

24  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25  Florida:

27         That the House of Representatives hereby recognizes
28  William H. Gates III for his commitment to education and for
29  his generosity in providing the citizens of Florida, by means
30  of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, expanded learning

  1  opportunities through the use of technology and technological
  2  infrastructure in the state's schools and communities.
  3         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
  4  be presented to William H. Gates III as a token of the
  5  gratitude and appreciation expressed herein.
