2 A resolution recognizing the University of
3 South Florida football team.

5 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida football team,
6 in existence for a mere 5 years, ascended to the rank of a
7 competitive Division 1-A team during the 2001 football season,
8 and
9 WHEREAS, led by Coach Jim Leavitt, the University of
10 South Florida football team is the first to earn the coveted
11 status of Division 1 in such a brief time period, and
12 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida football team
13 quickly captured the attention of the sports world by climbing
14 from a Sports Illustrated ranking of 116 to an astonishing 22
15 as determined by the New York Times computer college football
16 survey, and
17 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida football team
18 earned an amazing 8-3 record in its first 1-A season, and
19 WHEREAS, the University of South Florida Bulls'
20 stunning 35-26 victory over the University of Pittsburgh marks
21 the first significant win in the school's football history,
22 NOW, THEREFORE,

24 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25 Florida:

27 That the House of Representatives enthusiastically
28 joins the University of South Florida students, faculty,
29 staff, and alumni and countless FOOTBULL fans in the Tampa Bay
30 region and beyond in congratulating Coach Jim Leavitt, his

1 energetic staff, and the young Bulls football team for their
2 record-breaking accomplishments during the 2001 season.
3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution
4 be presented to Coach Jim Leavitt as a tangible token of the
5 sentiments expressed herein.
