1 House Resolution
2 A resolution observing the 10th anniversary of
3 Hurricane Andrew.

5 WHEREAS, on August 24, 1992, Hurricane Andrew, a
6 category 4 hurricane, made landfall in South Miami-Dade
7 County, and
8 WHEREAS, the fury of Hurricane Andrew as it
9 relentlessly pounded the area changed forever the lives of the
10 residents of South Miami-Dade County, and
11 WHEREAS, until that time, the devastation wrought by
12 Hurricane Andrew was the costliest in United States history
13 resulting from a natural disaster, and
14 WHEREAS, the recovery efforts that took place in the
15 aftermath of Andrew are indeed a reflection of the remarkable
16 resiliency and determination of the people of South Miami-Dade
17 County, NOW, THEREFORE,

19 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
20 Florida:

22 That the House of Representatives pauses in its
23 deliberations to mark the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Andrew
24 and to pay tribute to the extraordinary spirit of the citizens
25 of the area in their accomplishments following the disaster.
26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of
27 Representatives urges that the subsequent restoration that has
28 led to an improved quality of life in South Miami-Dade County
29 be properly recognized by the reading of this resolution at
30 any public ceremony that may be held to commemorate the 10th
