  1                         House Resolution

  2         A resolution congratulating Bethune-Cookman

  3         College.

  4

  5         WHEREAS, Bethune-Cookman College was founded on October

  6  3, 1904, with "five girls, $1.50, and faith in God" by Mary

  7  McLeod Bethune, and

  8         WHEREAS, through the power of God and the tenacity of

  9  Mary McLeod Bethune, the college grew from an elementary

10  school, then to a high school, and finally to a college for

11  African Americans, and

12         WHEREAS, with a current college enrollment in excess of

13  2,600 students, Bethune-Cookman College ranks as the sixth

14  largest in student population out of the 39 United Negro

15  College Fund institutions, and

16         WHEREAS, the alumni of Bethune-Cookman College exceed

17  10,000 members, and

18         WHEREAS, Bethune-Cookman College is home of the

19  "Fighting Wildcats," NOW, THEREFORE,

21  Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of

22  Florida:

24         That the House of Representatives of the State of

25  Florida congratulates Bethune-Cookman College, and

26  acknowledges that anything is possible with "five girls,

27  $1.50, and faith in God."
