18 15-year charter renewal. The school district shall issue such
19 a 15-year renewal any time during a contract period upon
20 request of the charter school governing board if the school or
21 its parent corporation is organized as not-for-profit and is
22 recognized as a tax-exempt organization under s. 501(c)(3) of
23 the United States Internal Revenue Code. Such long-term
24 charter is subject to annual review and may be terminated
25 during the term of the charter.
26 (c) A charter may be modified during its initial term
27 or any renewal term upon the recommendation of the sponsor or
28 the charter school governing board and the approval of both
29 parties to the agreement.
30 (8) CAUSES FOR NONRENEWAL OR TERMINATION OF CHARTER.--
31 (a) At the end of the term of a charter, the sponsor

1 may choose not to renew the charter for any of the following
2 grounds:
3 1. Failure to meet the requirements for student
4 performance stated in the charter.
5 2. Failure to meet generally accepted standards of
6 fiscal management.
7 3. Violation of law.
8 (b) During the term of a charter, the sponsor may
9 terminate the charter for any of the grounds listed in
10 paragraph (a).
11 (c) At least 90 days prior to renewing or terminating
12 a charter, the sponsor shall notify the governing body of the
13 school of the proposed action in writing. The notice shall
14 state in reasonable detail the grounds for the proposed action
15 and stipulate that the school's governing body may, within 14
16 calendar days after receiving the notice, request an informal
17 hearing before the sponsor. The sponsor shall conduct the
18 informal hearing within 30 calendar days after receiving a
19 written request. The charter school's governing body may,
20 within 14 calendar days after receiving the sponsor's decision
21 to terminate or refuse to renew the charter, appeal the
22 decision pursuant to the procedure established in subsection
23 (6). When a charter school is not renewed, funding for the
24 school from any source shall not be interrupted or withheld
25 during the appeal process.
