18 attest to that portion of the examination. The
19 preparticipation physical evaluation form shall include a
20 statement advising students to complete a comprehensive
21 cardiovascular assessment which may include, but not be
22 limited to, an electrocardiogram. Practitioners administering
23 medical evaluations pursuant to this subsection must know the
24 minimum standards established by the organization and certify
25 that the student meets the standards. If the practitioner
26 determines that there are any abnormal findings in the
27 cardiovascular system, the student may not participate unless
28 a subsequent EKG or other cardiovascular assessment indicates
29 that the abnormality will not place the student at risk during
30 such participation. Results of such medical evaluation must be
31 provided to the school. No student shall be eligible to

1 participate in any interscholastic athletic competition or
2 engage in any practice, tryout, workout, or other physical
3 activity associated with the student's candidacy for an
4 interscholastic athletic team until the results of the medical
5 evaluation verifying that the student has satisfactorily
6 passed the evaluation have been received and approved by the
7 school.
8 (d) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph (c), a
9 student may participate in interscholastic athletic
10 competition or be a candidate for an interscholastic athletic
11 team if the parent of the student objects in writing to the
12 student undergoing a medical evaluation because such
13 evaluation is contrary to his or her religious tenets or
14 practices. A student who participates without the required
15 medical evaluation pursuant to this paragraph shall not have a
16 cause of action against any person or entity for any injury or
17 other damages suffered by such student arising out of the
18 student's participation, unless the injury or damages are
19 caused by gross negligence, recklessness, or intentional
20 misconduct.
