14         On page 771, line 14, through
15            page 773, line 29, delete those lines

17  and insert:  
18         (3)  The department shall identify those courses
19  offered by universities and accepted for credit toward a
20  degree. The department shall identify courses designated as
21  either general education or required as a prerequisite for a
22  degree. The courses shall be identified by their statewide
23  course number.
24         (4)  The boards of trustees of the community colleges
25  and state universities shall identify their core curricula.
26  The universities and community colleges shall work with their
27  school districts to assure that high school curricula
28  coordinate with the core curricula and to prepare students for
29  college-level work. Core curricula for associate in arts
30  programs shall be adopted in rule by the State Board of
31  Education and shall include 36 semester hours of general

SENATE AMENDMENT Bill No. CS for SB 2-D Amendment No. ___ Barcode 114370 1 education courses in the subject areas of communication, 2 mathematics, social sciences, humanities, and natural 3 sciences. 4 (5) An associate in arts degree shall require no more 5 than 60 semester hours of college credit, including 36 6 semester hours of general education coursework. Except for 7 college-preparatory coursework required pursuant to s. 8 1008.30, all required coursework shall count toward the 9 associate in arts degree or the baccalaureate degree. 10 (6) A baccalaureate degree program shall require no 11 more than 120 semester hours of college credit, including 36 12 semester hours of general education coursework, unless prior 13 approval has been granted by the State Board of Education. 14 (7) A student who received an associate in arts degree 15 for successfully completing 60 semester credit hours may 16 continue to earn additional credits at a community college. 17 The university must provide credit toward the student's 18 baccalaureate degree for an additional community college 19 course if, according to the statewide course numbering, the 20 community college course is a course listed in the university 21 catalog as required for the degree or as prerequisite to a 22 course required for the degree. Of the courses required for 23 the degree, at least half of the credit hours required for the 24 degree shall be achievable through courses designated as lower 25 division, except in degree programs approved by the State 26 Board of Education. 27 (8) Students at state universities may request 28 associate in arts certificates if they have successfully 29 completed the minimum requirements for the degree of associate 30 in arts (A.A.).
