17 Section 3. Subsection (3) and paragraph (a) of
18 subsection (5) of section 443.111, Florida Statutes, are
19 amended to read:
20 443.111 Payment of benefits.--
21 (3) WEEKLY BENEFIT AMOUNT.--
22 (a) An individual's "weekly benefit amount" shall be
23 an amount equal to one twenty-sixth of the total wages for
24 insured work paid during that quarter of the base period in
25 which such total wages paid were the highest, but not less
26 than $32 or more than $275. For claims with benefit years
27 beginning January 1, 2000, through December 31, 2000, an
28 additional 5 percent of the weekly benefit amount shall be
29 added for the first 8 compensable weeks of benefits paid, not
30 to exceed $288. Such weekly benefit amount, if not a multiple
31 of $1, shall be rounded downward to the nearest full dollar

1 amount. The maximum weekly benefit amount in effect at the
2 time the claimant establishes an individual weekly benefit
3 amount shall be the maximum benefit amount applicable
4 throughout the claimant's benefit year.
5 (b) For fiscal year 2002-2003 only, and
6 notwithstanding the requirements of paragraph (a), an
7 individual's "weekly benefit amount" shall be an amount equal
8 to one twenty-sixth of the total wages for insured work paid
9 during that quarter of the base period in which such total
10 wages paid were the highest, but not less than $32 or more
11 that $275. For claims with benefit years beginning October 1,
12 2002, through June 30, 2003, an additional amount equal to $25
13 or 15 percent of the weekly benefit amount, whichever is
14 greater, shall be added for each compensable week of benefits
15 paid, not to exceed $316. Such weekly benefit amount, if not a
16 multiple of $1, shall be rounded downward to the nearest full
17 dollar amount. The maximum weekly benefit amount in effect at
18 the time the claimant establishes an individual weekly benefit
19 amount shall be the maximum benefit amount applicable
20 throughout the claimant's benefit year. This paragraph expires
21 July 1, 2003.
22 (5) DURATION OF BENEFITS.--
23 (a)1.a. Any otherwise eligible individual shall be
24 entitled during any benefit year to a total amount of benefits
25 equal to 25 percent of the total wages in the base period, not
26 to exceed $7,150. For claims with benefit years beginning
27 January 1, 2000, through December 31, 2000, an additional
28 amount equal to 5 percent of the weekly benefit amount
29 multiplied by 8 shall be added to the calculated total amount
30 of benefits, the sum of which may not exceed $7,254. However,
31 such total amount of benefits, if not a multiple of $1, shall

1 be rounded downward to the nearest full dollar amount. Such
2 benefits shall be payable at a weekly rate no greater than the
3 weekly benefit amount.
4 b. For fiscal year 2002-2003 only, and notwithstanding
5 the requirements of sub-subparagraph a., any otherwise
6 eligible individual shall be entitled during any benefit year
7 to a total amount of benefits equal to 25 percent of the total
8 wages in the base period, not to exceed $7,150. For claims
9 with benefit years beginning October 1, 2002, through June 30,
10 2003, an additional amount equal to $650 or 15 percent of the
11 weekly benefit amount multiplied by 26, whichever is greater,
12 shall be added to the calculated total amount of benefits, the
13 sum of which may not exceed $8,216. However, such total amount
14 of benefits, if no a multiple of $1, shall be rounded downward
15 to the nearest full dollar amount. Such benefits shall be
16 payable at a weekly rate not greater than the weekly benefit
17 amount. This sub-subparagraph expires on July 1, 2003.
18 2. For the purposes of this subsection, wages shall be
19 counted as "wages for insured work" for benefit purposes with
20 respect to any benefit year only if such benefit year begins
21 subsequent to the date on which the employing unit by whom
22 such wages were paid has satisfied the conditions of this
23 chapter with respect to becoming an employer.
