2 A memorial to the Congress of the United
3 States, urging Congress to adopt House
4 Resolution 505, or similar legislation, to
5 amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to
6 provide for the adjustment of the status of
7 alien children who arrive in the United States
8 without their parents and to establish a panel
9 of advisors to assist unaccompanied alien
10 children in immigration proceedings.

12 WHEREAS, under current policy of the United States
13 Immigration and Naturalization Service, certain minors coming
14 into the United States are subject to being handcuffed,
15 shackled, and even placed in solitary confinement, and
16 WHEREAS, House Resolution 505, the Alien Unaccompanied
17 Minor Adjustment and Protection Act of 2001, would not only
18 provide for a more humane treatment of certain minor alien
19 children, but would also allow them to have access to family
20 within the United States and provide them with legal
21 assistance and guardians ad litem, and
22 WHEREAS, this act provides a means by which to assist
23 these children who have dreamed of a better life and who have
24 risked their lives to come to a country of freedom and
25 opportunity, NOW, THEREFORE,

27 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

29 That the Congress of the United States is requested to
30 amend the Immigration and Nationality Act and enact House
31 Resolution 505, the Alien Unaccompanied Minor Adjustment and

1 Protection Act of 2001, or similar legislation, to provide
2 assistance to alien unaccompanied minor children in
3 immigration proceedings.
4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
5 dispatched to the President of the United States, to the
6 President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the
7 United States House of Representatives, and to each member of
8 the Florida delegation to the United States Congress.
