  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to property tax exemptions;

  3         creating s. 196.2003, F.S.; exempting certain

  4         portions of certain private residential

  5         property used for certain purposes; requiring

  6         annual application; providing an effective

  7         date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11         Section 1.  Section 196.2003, Florida Statutes, is

12  created to read:

13         196.2003  Private residential island property cistern

14  exemption.--That portion of a private residential property in

15  an island community upon which a cistern is located and used

16  for purposes of storing fresh water, reducing the need to draw

17  water from public aquifers, and serving as an important source

18  of water in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster

19  shall be exempt. No exemption authorized pursuant to this

20  section shall be granted unless the owner applies to the

21  property appraiser on or before March 1 each year for such

22  exemption. 

23         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

24  law.
