  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act calling a special election for the

  3         approval or rejection by the electors of a

  4         joint resolution relating to the repeal of

  5         provisions that mandate maximum class sizes for

  6         students in prekindergarten through grade 12.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Under Section 5 of Article XI of the State

11  Constitution, there shall be a special election on November 4,

12  2003, at which there shall be submitted to the electors of

13  this state for approval or rejection Senate Joint Resolution

14  No. ___, relating to the repeal of provisions that prescribe

15  the maximum class sizes allowed for students in

16  prekindergarten through grade 12.

17         Section 2.  Publication of notice shall be in

18  accordance with Section 5 of Article XI of the State

19  Constitution. The special election shall be held as other

20  special elections are held.

21         Section 3.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

22  law, but only if it is enacted by the affirmative vote of

23  three-fourths of the membership of each house of the

24  Legislature.

27                          SENATE SUMMARY

28    Provides for a special election to be conducted on
      November 4, 2003, to submit to the electors a proposed
29    constitutional revision that repeals provisions
      prescribing the maximum allowable class size for
30    kindergarten through grade 12.
