1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing February 27, 2003, as
3 "Peripheral Neuropathy Awareness Day" in the
4 State of Florida.

6 WHEREAS, Peripheral Neuropathy is a disorder that
7 results from functional impairment or damage to nerves
8 peripheral to the brain and spinal cord, and
9 WHEREAS, an estimated 20 million people in the United
10 States suffer from Peripheral Neuropathy, manifesting in many
11 forms, including acute motor paralysis, subacute sensorimotor
12 paralysis, and chronic sensorimotor paralysis, and
13 WHEREAS, Peripheral Neuropathy can result from such
14 different causes as metabolic disease, viral and bacterial
15 infection, physical injury, poisoning, malnutrition, and
16 genetic disorder, and
17 WHEREAS, clinical symptoms can indicate the existence
18 of Peripheral Neuropathy, but precise diagnosis requires
19 review and analysis of medical history, physical examination,
20 medical testing, and exclusionary treatments, and
21 WHEREAS, Peripheral Neuropathy is preventable only to
22 the extent that the underlying cause is preventable, requiring
23 the individual patient's alert awareness of bodily deficiency,
24 illness, infection, or injury that can cause Peripheral
25 Neuropathy, and the individual's willingness to seek early
26 diagnosis and treatment, and
27 WHEREAS, a Neuropathy Association has been constituted
28 to inform people of Peripheral Neuropathy, educate them on its
29 symptoms and best preventive practices, and promote medical
30 research toward improved methods of diagnosing and treating
31 Peripheral Neuropathy, NOW, THEREFORE

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That the Florida Senate recognizes February 27, 2003,
4 as "Peripheral Neuropathy Awareness Day" in the State of
5 Florida.
6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
7 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the
8 President of the Neuropathy Association as a tangible token of
9 the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
