1 A bill to be entitled
2          An act relating to enterprise zones; amending s. 290.0065,
3    F.S.; extending the date for submission of applications
4    for enterprise zone boundary changes; amending s.
5    290.00693, F.S.; providing that the governing body of
6    Gadsden County may apply to the Office of Tourism, Trade,
7    and Economic Development to amend the boundaries of a
8    specified enterprise zone; providing an effective date.

10          Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
11         
12          Section 1. Subsection (11) of section 290.0065, Florida
13    Statutes, is amended to read:
14          290.0065 State designation of enterprise zones.--
15          (11) Before June 1, 20042002, the governing body of a
16    municipality that is located within a county having a population
17    of less than 225,000 and in which an enterprise zone designated
18    under subparagraph (3)(a)2. is located may apply to the Office
19    of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development to change the
20    boundaries of the enterprise zone. The Office of Tourism, Trade,
21    and Economic Development shall approve the application if the
22    boundary change does not increase the overall size of the
23    enterprise zone and if any territory added to the enterprise
24    zone as a result of the boundary change is contiguous to the
25    remaining area of the existing enterprise zone.
26          Section 2. Section 290.00693, Florida Statutes, is amended
27    to read:
28          290.00693 Enterprise zone designation for Gadsden County.-
29    - (1)Gadsden County may apply to the Office of Tourism,
30    Trade, and Economic Development for designation of one
31    enterprise zone encompassing an area within the county. The
32    application must be submitted by December 31, 1999, and must
33    comply with the requirements of s. 290.0055. Notwithstanding the
34    provisions of s. 290.0065 limiting the total number of
35    enterprise zones designated and the number of enterprise zones
36    within a population category, the Office of Tourism, Trade, and
37    Economic Development may designate one enterprise zone under
38    this section. The Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic
39    Development shall establish the initial effective date of the
40    enterprise zone designated pursuant to this section.
41          (2) Before December 31, 2003, the governing body of a
42    county in which an enterprise zone designated pursuant to this
43    section is located may apply to the Office of Tourism, Trade,
44    and Economic Development to amend the boundaries of the
45    enterprise zone for the purpose of replacing areas not suitable
46    for development
47          Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
