1	A bill to be entitled
2	An act relating to colleges; amending s. 1000.21, F.S.; changing
3	the names of Chipola Junior College and Miami-Dade Community
4	College to Chipola College and Miami-Dade College, respectively;
5	amending ss. 288.8175 and 1002.35, F.S.; conforming provisions;
6	providing an effective date.

8	Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10	Section 1. Paragraphs (d) and (o) of subsection (3) of
11	section 1000.21, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
12	1000.21 Systemwide definitions.--As used in the Florida K-
13	20 Education Code:
14	(3) "Community college," except as otherwise specifically
15	provided, includes the following institutions and any branch
16	campuses, centers, or other affiliates of the institution:
17	(d) Chipola JuniorCollege.
18	(o) Miami-Dade CommunityCollege.
19	Section 2. Paragraphs (a) and (g) of subsection (5) of
20	section 288.8175, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
21	288.8175 Linkage institutes between postsecondary
22	institutions in this state and foreign countries.--
23	(5) The institutes are:
24	(a) Florida-Brazil Institute (University of Florida and
25	Miami-Dade CommunityCollege).
26	(g) Florida-France Institute (New College of the
27	University of South Florida, Miami-Dade CommunityCollege, and
28	Florida State University).
29	Section 3. Paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section
30	1002.35, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
31	1002.35 New World School of the Arts.--
32	(2)(a) For purposes of governance, the New World School of
33	the Arts is assigned to Miami-Dade CommunityCollege, the Dade
34	County School District, and one or more universities designated
35	by the State Board of Education. The State Board of Education
36	shall assign to the New World School of the Arts a university
37	partner or partners. In this selection, the State Board of
38	Education shall consider the accreditation status of the core
39	programs. Florida International University, in its capacity as
40	the provider of university services to Dade County, shall be a
41	partner to serve the New World School of the Arts, upon meeting
42	the accreditation criteria. The respective boards shall appoint
43	members to an executive board for administration of the school.
44	The executive board may include community members and shall
45	reflect proportionately the participating institutions. Miami-
46	Dade CommunityCollege shall serve as fiscal agent for the
47	school.
48	Section 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
