1 Senate Resolution No. ____
2 A resolution recognizing the value of Florida's
3 Apprenticeship programs in educating and training the workers
4 needed to perform the high-skill, high-wage jobs required to
5 support the state's developing economy, and recognizing March
6 6, 2003, as Apprenticeship Day 2003 in the State of Florida.

8 WHEREAS, apprenticeship programs are recognized
9 throughout the world as providing one of the most effective,
10 efficient, and economical means of educating and training
11 workers who are needed to perform high-skill, high-wage jobs
12 in the building trades, and
13 WHEREAS, since being authorized by the Florida
14 Legislature in 1947, apprenticeship programs in Florida have
15 educated and trained tens of thousands of workers to perform
16 capably in every facet of the building trades, providing the
17 state's builders with the highly skilled personnel required to
18 meet their employment needs and enabling the state's builders
19 to be competitive leaders in developing the state's economy,
20 and
21 WHEREAS, through the strong and viable partnerships
22 that have been developed by and among business and labor in
23 Florida, there are now 314 approved apprenticeship programs
24 operating in the state, actively educating and training 11,953
25 workers, and
26 WHEREAS, workers who graduate from approved
27 apprenticeship programs in Florida consistently earn high
28 wages, experience low rates of need for public assistance,
29 provide economic stability among the rank and file of
30 Florida's workforce, and supply the lifeblood of the state's
31 builders, NOW, THEREFORE,

1 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

3 That the Florida Senate acknowledges the immeasurable
4 value of the state's approved apprenticeship programs to
5 Florida's economy and recognizes March 6, 2003, as
6 Apprenticeship Day 2003 in the State of Florida.
7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution,
8 with the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the
9 Director of the Division of Workforce Development of the
10 Florida Department of Education as a tangible token of the
11 sentiments of the Florida Senate.
