1 A bill to be entitled
2          An act relating to reclaimed water; amending ss. 373.250
3    and 403.064, F.S.; requiring the Department of Health to
4    submit an annual report regarding the quality of reclaimed
5    water to the Legislature; revising legislative findings;
6    providing an effective date.

8          Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
9         
10          Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 373.250, Florida
11    Statutes, is amended to read:
12          373.250 Reuse of reclaimed water.--
13          (1) The encouragement and promotion of water conservation
14    and reuse of reclaimed water, as defined by the department, are
15    state objectives and considered to be in the public interest.
16    The Department of Health shall provide the Legislature with an
17    annual report that analyzes the quality of the reclaimed water
18    that is reused in this state in ways that involve potential
19    human exposure and provide recommendations to ensure that such
20    reuse is The Legislature finds that the use of reclaimed water
21    provided by domestic wastewater treatment plants permitted and
22    operated under a reuse program approved by the department is
23    environmentally acceptable andnot a threat to public health and
24    safety.
25          Section 2. Subsection (1) of section 403.064, Florida
26    Statutes, is amended to read:
27          403.064 Reuse of reclaimed water.--
28          (1) The encouragement and promotion of water conservation,
29    and reuse of reclaimed water, as defined by the department, are
30    state objectives and are considered to be in the public
31    interest. The Legislature finds that the reuse of reclaimed
32    water is a critical component of meeting the state's existing
33    and future water supply needs while sustaining natural systems.
34    The Department of Health shall provide the Legislature with an
35    annual report that analyzes the quality of the reclaimed water
36    that is reused in this state in ways that involve potential
37    human exposure and provide recommendations to ensure that such
38    reuse is The Legislature further finds that for those wastewater
39    treatment plants permitted and operated under an approved reuse
40    program by the department, the reclaimed water shall be
41    considered environmentally acceptable andnot a threat to public
42    health and safety.
43          Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
