Between lines 4253 and 4254, insert: |

Section 105. (1) The Department of Health, in |
17
|
consultation with the Miami-Dade Community College Physician |
18
|
Assistant Program, the University of Florida Physician Assistant |
19
|
Program, the Nova Southeastern University Physician Assistant |
20
|
Program, and the Barry University Physician Assistant Program, |
21
|
shall conduct a study to establish the most advantageous methods |
22
|
to utilize the medical skills of foreign-trained physicians to |
23
|
practice as physician assistants in this state. Such study shall |
24
|
indicate:
|
25
|
(a) The existing pathways or methods for a foreign-trained |
26
|
physician to receive a license to practice as a physician |
27
|
assistant in Florida.
|
28
|
(b) National standards, national examinations, and |
29
|
credentialing requirements for a foreign-trained physician to be |
30
|
licensed to practice as a physician assistant in other states in |
31
|
the United States.
|
32
|
(c) Training, education requirements, remedial courses, |
33
|
and supervisory needs of a foreign-trained physician desiring to |
34
|
become eligible to practice as a physician assistant.
|
35
|
(d) The scope of practice of a foreign-trained physician |
36
|
assistant.
|
37
|
(e) Any other areas of study that the department and |
38
|
educational institutions deem appropriate to further the intent |
39
|
of this section.
|

|
(2) A copy of the study, including results and |
41
|
recommendations, shall be presented to the Governor, the |
42
|
President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of |
43
|
Representatives no later than January 1, 2004.
