An act relating to motor vehicle liability insurance; |

requiring that persons convicted of certain offenses of |
4
|
driving under the influence maintain a noncancelable motor |
5
|
vehicle liability policy for a specified period following |
6
|
license reinstatement; requiring periodic proof of |
7
|
financial responsibility and renewal of vehicle |
8
|
registration; requiring that the Department of Highway |
9
|
Safety and Motor Vehicles issue a vehicle registration |
10
|
certificate and validation sticker displaying the date of |
11
|
expiration; providing an effective date. |

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

|
|

|
Section 1.Noncancelable motor vehicle liability policy |
16
|
required following certain DUI offenses.-- |
17
|
(1) If a person's motor vehicle license is suspended or |
18
|
revoked due to any violation of section 316.193, Florida |
19
|
Statutes, that person must maintain proof of financial |
20
|
responsibility as provided in this section for each motor |
21
|
vehicle registered in his or her name for 3 years following |
22
|
license reinstatement. During the 3-year period, the person may |
23
|
not register a motor vehicle unless he or she maintains a |
24
|
noncancelable motor vehicle liability policy of at least 3 |
25
|
months' duration which insures the operator against loss from |
26
|
liability for bodily injury, death, and property damage arising |
27
|
out of the ownership, maintenance, or use of the motor vehicle |
28
|
in an amount not less than the limits described in section |
29
|
324.021(7), Florida Statutes, and which conforms to the |
30
|
requirements of section 324.151, Florida Statutes. The vehicle |
31
|
registration is subject to renewal every 3 months. |

(2) Notwithstanding s. 320.055, Florida Statutes, upon |
33
|
reinstatement of the person's license and proof of financial |
34
|
responsibility as provided in subsection (1), the Department of |
35
|
Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles shall issue a vehicle |
36
|
registration certificate that is valid for 3 months and shall |
37
|
issue a validation sticker that displays an expiration date of 3 |
38
|
months after the date of issuance. |

|
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2003. |
