  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to drug prescriptions; creating

  3         s. 456.42, F.S; requiring written drug

  4         prescriptions to be legibly typed or printed,

  5         to contain certain information, and to be

  6         signed and dated by the prescribing

  7         practitioner on the day issued; providing an

  8         effective date.

10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11  

12         Section 1.  Section 456.42, Florida Statutes, is

13  created to read:

14         456.42  Written prescriptions for medicinal drugs.--A

15  written prescription for a medicinal drug issued by a health

16  care practitioner licensed by law to prescribe such drug must

17  be legibly printed or typed; must contain the name of the

18  prescribing practitioner, the name of the patient, and the

19  name of the drug prescribed and its strength, quantity, and

20  directions for use; and must be dated and signed by the

21  prescribing practitioner on the day when issued.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003.
