  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to social security numbers;

  3         prohibiting private businesses from requiring

  4         the disclosure of all or part of such a number

  5         except as required by federal law; providing an

  6         effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  A private business may not require an

11  individual to disclose his or her social security number or

12  any part of that number as verification of the individual's

13  identity, or for any other purpose, except as required by

14  federal law.

15         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003.
