  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to public school performance;

  3         amending s. 1008.34, F.S.; providing funding to

  4         a school designated as performance grade

  5         category "F"; providing for use of such funds;

  6         providing an effective date.

  8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  9  

10         Section 1.  Subsection (7) of section 1008.34, Florida

11  Statutes, is amended to read:

12         1008.34  School grading system; district performance

13  grade.--

14         (7)  PERFORMANCE-BASED FUNDING.--The Legislature may

15  factor in the performance of schools in calculating any

16  performance-based funding policy that is provided for annually

17  in the General Appropriations Act, provided that a school

18  designated as performance grade category "F" shall receive

19  $100 per student for the school year following the year in

20  which it receives such designation, as provided in the General

21  Appropriations Act. These funds shall be used for the purchase

22  or procurement of instructional materials, instructional

23  technology reading teachers, instructional personnel, or

24  services deemed necessary for school improvement.

25         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2003.
