1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to reclaimed water; amending
3 ss. 373.250 and 403.064, F.S.; requiring the
4 Department of Health to submit an annual report
5 regarding the quality of reclaimed water to the
6 Legislature; revising legislative findings;
7 providing an effective date.

9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11 Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 373.250, Florida
12 Statutes, is amended to read:
13 373.250 Reuse of reclaimed water.--
14 (1) The encouragement and promotion of water
15 conservation and reuse of reclaimed water, as defined by the
16 department, are state objectives and considered to be in the
17 public interest. The Department of Health shall provide the
18 Legislature with an annual report that analyzes the quality of
19 the reclaimed water that is reused in this state in ways that
20 involve potential human exposure and provide recommendations
21 to ensure that such reuse is The Legislature finds that the
22 use of reclaimed water provided by domestic wastewater
23 treatment plants permitted and operated under a reuse program
24 approved by the department is environmentally acceptable and
25 not a threat to public health and safety.
26 Section 2. Subsection (1) of section 403.064, Florida
27 Statutes, is amended to read:
28 403.064 Reuse of reclaimed water.--
29 (1) The encouragement and promotion of water
30 conservation, and reuse of reclaimed water, as defined by the
31 department, are state objectives and are considered to be in

1 the public interest. The Legislature finds that the reuse of
2 reclaimed water is a critical component of meeting the state's
3 existing and future water supply needs while sustaining
4 natural systems. The Department of Health shall provide the
5 Legislature with an annual report that analyzes the quality of
6 the reclaimed water that is reused in this state in ways that
7 involve potential human exposure and provide recommendations
8 to ensure that such reuse is The Legislature further finds
9 that for those wastewater treatment plants permitted and
10 operated under an approved reuse program by the department,
11 the reclaimed water shall be considered environmentally
12 acceptable and not a threat to public health and safety.
13 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a
14 law.
