| 1 | A bill to be entitled | ||
| 2 | An act relating to instructional materials for K-12 public | ||
| 3 | education; authorizing a pilot program to enable selected | ||
| 4 | school districts to realize cost savings in the purchase | ||
| 5 | of instructional materials; requiring a report to the | ||
| 6 | Legislature; providing an effective date. | ||

| 8 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: | ||
| 9 | |||
| 10 | Section 1.The Department of Education is authorized to | ||
| 11 | conduct a pilot program to enable selected school districts to | ||
| 12 | realize cost savings in the purchase of instructional materials. | ||
| 13 | The school districts of Hernando County, Pasco County, and | ||
| 14 | Hillsborough County shall participate in the pilot program. | ||
| 15 | Charter schools in each such school district shall be eligible | ||
| 16 | to participate in the pilot program. For purposes of the pilot | ||
| 17 | program, the Department of Education may waive the requirements | ||
| 18 | of s. 1006.37, Florida Statutes, relating to the requisition of | ||
| 19 | instructional materials from publisher depositories. The | ||
| 20 | Department of Education shall submit to the President of the | ||
| 21 | Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives for | ||
| 22 | consideration during the 2004 Regular Session a report of the | ||
| 23 | cost savings per school district and recommendations for | ||
| 24 | potential cost savings to school districts based on results of | ||
| 25 | the pilot program. | ||
| 26 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2003. | ||
