  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the recreational trails

  3         system; amending s. 260.012, F.S.; encouraging

  4         state, regional, and local agencies to give

  5         additional priority points for acquisition in

  6         purchasing land that includes the Florida

  7         National Scenic Trail; amending s. 260.0142,

  8         F.S.; deleting a limitation on service on the

  9         Florida Greenways and Trails Council; providing

10         an effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13  

14         Section 1.  Subsection (6) of section 260.012, Florida

15  Statutes, is amended to read:

16         260.012  Declaration of policy and legislative

17  intent.--

18         (6)  It is the intent of the Legislature to officially

19  recognize the Florida National Scenic Trail as Florida's

20  official statewide trail from the Florida Panhandle to the

21  Everglades. It is also the intent of the Legislature to

22  encourage all state, regional, and local agencies that who

23  acquire lands to include in their land-buying efforts the

24  acquisition of sufficient legal interest in the lands over

25  which the trail passes to ensure its continued existence in a

26  permanent location and to give each parcel of land proposed to

27  be purchased which includes a portion of the trail additional

28  priority points for acquisition within the agency's

29  land-buying process.

30         Section 2.  Subsection (6) of section 260.0142, Florida

31  Statutes, is amended to read:

 1         260.0142  Florida Greenways and Trails Council;

 2  composition; powers and duties.--

 3         (6)  A vacancy on the council shall be filled for the

 4  remainder of the unexpired term in the same manner as the

 5  original appointment.  Members whose terms have expired may

 6  continue to serve until replaced or reappointed. No member

 7  shall serve on the council for more than two consecutive

 8  terms.

 9         Section 3.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

10  law.
