  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to a transition course for

  3         inmates; amending s. 944.7065, F.S.; revising

  4         requirements for the transition course required

  5         for inmates who are released from the

  6         Department of Corrections and reenter the

  7         community; providing an effective date.

  9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10  

11         Section 1.  Section 944.7065, Florida Statutes, is

12  amended to read:

13         944.7065  Transition course for inmates.--In an effort

14  to ensure that inmates released from the Department of

15  Corrections successfully reenter the community, beginning

16  December 1, 2002, an each inmate who meets the criteria

17  established released from incarceration by the department must

18  complete a 100-hour comprehensive transition course that

19  covers job readiness and life management skills. This

20  requirement does not apply to inmates released in an emergency

21  situation.

22         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

23  law.

27    Deletes the course hour requirement for the transition
      course required for inmates who are released by the

      establish criteria.
